There are currently 6 peer primary health care workers working in KTA alongside a coordinator. The team provide visits to the community and offer information to the community.
Mental Health
Mental health difficulties and suicide within the Traveller community are at a crisis point. Kildare Traveller Action continues to lobby for support to develop a Traveller mental health programme which is evidence based and which could have significant impact on the wellbeing of the community.
KTA is also calling on the government to develop a Traveller and Roma Mental Health strategy as was promised in the programme for government. The Traveller mental health strategy is needed to address the 7 times higher rate of suicide within the community and to support vulnerable Families.
KTA will be planning a series of workshops on mental health awareness with the community throughout 2024. Contact KTA staff for more information.
KTA and the Primary healthcare team are hosting in partnership with the HSE a health information event on the 21st February in the town hall from 10am to 1pm. Lots of health information will be available on the day with guest speakers on Menopause mental health and lots more.
