Kildare Traveller Action originally began its work in 1998 as Naas Equality for Travellers. The founders worked to improve conditions and were committed to breaking down barriers between the Traveller and settled community. This work continues and Kildare Traveller action is made of people who have a strong commitment to human rights, social justice, and believe in inclusion of Travellers through empowerment. The organisation is a registered charity and is governed by a voluntary board of Management.

KTA works with Traveller families throughout Kildare county and into west Wicklow. The areas which are supported include:

  • Health
  • Accommodation
  • Education
  • Discrimination
  • Youth
  • Culture and heritage

A community Development approach is taken and Travellers are supported and encouraged to take on roles in the organisation. It is hoped that eventually KTA will be a Traveller led organisation.
